Benefits Of Shooting Anamorphic

I don’t like to use the term “Cinematic”, instead I will use the word “Cinema”.

Shooting in Anamorphic will make the frame look organic.  This is done by a smoother focus roll-off from foreground to background.

You capture wider shots when compared to Spherical, which makes the frame appear larger, which then gives the viewer that “Film” experience.  And the bokeh is oval, not round, which gives the out of focus areas a painterly quality.  In short, it adds an extra level of production value and it can give our movie a unique and distinct look.

Here are two examples from the movie "A Quite Place"

Here are 2 examples of a comparison between shooting Spherical Lenses vs 2x Anamorphic Lenses:

Example #1 (The Star Trek Example):

The Top Pic is from Star Trek VI shot with Spherical Lenses and the Bottom Pic is from Star Trek V shot with Anamorphic Lenses.

Example #2 The Spherical vs Anamorphic Example:

Compares Spherical Focal Lengths (left column) to their equivalent Anamorphic Focal Lengths (right column).
